How safe is it to use a propane grill on the gr?

My neighbors who occupy the 1st floor of the apt complex just broke out the propane grill..ON THE GR OF THE FRONT LAWN..now, Im not sure how safe i feel knowing that the fire is so close to the gr that is too close to the house and freakin trees. Is there some different type of rules for the use of propane gas as opposed to the regular coals when using them close to gr and trees. Or am i just being super paranoid! Quick, serious answers are appreciated..should i pack my stuff now and roll before a fire happens? Oh Lord!
